Energy Manager Vacancy: - Brighton, United Kingdom

Job purpose
Interserve has been announced as preferred bidder for the University of Sussex, delivering a full facilities management service. We are currently recruiting an Energy Manager, reporting to the Estates Manager, to to take full responsibility for the energy budget and energy management. This is a TFM contract with approximately 100 buildings.

The new partnership will take full operational control from 1st Jan 2014.
 
Responsibilities
  • Management of the energy and water budget for InterserveFM and authorisation of monthly energy and water bills.
  • Management of utility contracts including assessment of tenders and final recommendations for new contracts following tendering procedures.
  • Responsibility for the monitoring and targeting of energy and water consumption and for the submission of monthly and annual reports.
  • Responsibility for conforming to EU carbon trading legislation including submission of monitoring reports and trading of CO2 allowances to ensure correct amount of CO2 allowances are submitted each year.
  • Responsibility for submission of monitoring reports to ensure proportionate exemption from CCL for gas and electricity.
  • Take a lead role in the prevention of Legionnaires disease including the preparation of a written scheme and risk assessments.
  • Carry our AP duties for medical gases and high voltage in line with the service contract.
  • Carry out AP duties for confined spaces.
  • Carry out a measurement of the energy consumption on an on-going basis.
  • Carry out any other duties as required by the Estates Manager.
  • Will have line management or supervisory responsibility for one member of staff.
  • Occasionally carry out disciplinary and grievance investigations.
  • Will occasionally be involved in staff training – e.g. induction of new staff.
  • Expected to submit regular reports and make occasional presentations to all levels of staff up to board level.
  • Will occasionally represent the company in meetings with other organisations.
  • Will be expected to train staff at all levels in energy management.
  • Be aware of the business continuity plan for the part of the business you work in.

Desired Skills and Experience

Knowledge skills & experience
  • HNC engineering qualification or equivalent is desirable
  • Experience in engineering and estates management
  • Experience in energy management
  • Ability to authorise High voltage and Medical gas
  • IT skills - Microsoft Excel at advanced level and Microsoft Word at intermediate level
  • High standard of oral communication
  • Commercial awareness
  • Professional Engineer
  • I. ENG qualification
  • Experience of working in a University environment is desirable
