Data Center Energy Manager Vacancy: Facebook - Menlo Park, CA

Job description

Our data centers are the foundation upon which our rapidly scaling infrastructure efficiently operates and upon which our innovative services are delivered. Facebook is seeking a highly experienced and outgoing energy professional to join our Energy Team to negotiate and procure the energy needed to support our growing fleet of data centers. The Energy Manager will also help drive the continued development and execution of Facebook’s global energy strategy in an effort to create a diverse, low cost energy supply portfolio that supports the company’s overall strategic objectives. This position is full-time and located in our Menlo Park office.

Responsibilities
  • Negotiate special contracts for electricity supply and maintain relationships with utility providers, key consultants, and stakeholders
  • Take an active role in regulatory processes and influence the design of new clean and renewable energy supply solutions offered by utilities
  • Partner with legal resources to develop and refine contracts
  • Support continued development and execution of the energy supply strategy for Facebook’s international and domestic data centers
  • Identify opportunities to improve the reliability, reduce the environmental footprint, and reduce the cost of our energy supply portfolio and ensure alignment with the company’s strategic objectives
  • Stay informed of the technical, market, and regulatory developments in the energy industry and communicate key trends, risks and potential impacts to management
  • Support the optimization and expansion of Facebook’s existing data centers through the extension of existing agreements or the formation of new agreements and supply strategies
  • Enhance and expand energy reporting and metric systems to efficiently monitor and communicate Facebook’s energy situation and track energy contract status and performance
  • Interface with internal organizations including sustainability, capacity planning, data center design, construction, legal, and finance
  • Lead and support various energy projects as needed 

Requirements
  • Bachelor's degree in a business or technical discipline required
  • MBA or J.D. highly desirable
  • Significant (10+ years) prior experience in negotiating electricity supply contracts for electricity intensive consumers and navigating related commercial and regulatory issues
  • Direct experience in developing and acquiring clean and renewable energy supplies
  • Seasoned professional that is comfortable, experienced, and astute at representing business interests to the senior leadership of potential suppliers, utilities, governments, regulatory agencies, and other stakeholders
  • Working knowledge of transmission, distribution, and utility interconnection processes
  • Ability to manage multiple projects and coordinate with internal staff, utility providers, consultants, and external stakeholders
  • Strong analytical, creative thinking, written, and verbal communications skills with proven ability to effectively distill and communicate complex commercial, regulatory, market, and contractual details to all organizational levels
  • Ability to travel domestically and internationally as needed (25% to 50%+ at times)
